As the AV Club reports, 89.3 The Current is set to launch their newest online-only radio station tomorrow. The "Local Current" will play only local music, from both established Minnesota artists as well as up-and-comers. In addition to the 24/7 local tunes, every weeknight at 6pm they'll feature a full in-studio session with a local band, and every Monday at noon they'll replay the latest Local Show with Dave Campbell. The official launch date is Thursday, April 14, but it seems that the stream is already up and running now.
This sounds like a welcome addition to The Current's already extensive musical reach, and it might be the way for MPR to gain some new supporters, not to mention the exposure this could give to local bands. It may, however, also increase their competition with our other local radio darling, Radio K.
